Senecio mandraliscae is a cherished source of that rarest of colors in the garden — true blue. Not short-lived blooms, but the thick, upright, evergreen leaves range from pale to bright blue. The common name Blue Chalksticks refers to the size, shape and color of the leaves, each covered with a waxy, protective film that gives a chalky appearance.

Blue chalksticks thrive in full sun, which brings out the richest, most vivid coloring. It forms a dramatic, low maintenance ground cover of leaves 3-4 inches tall, reaching up to 12 inches in height. The strong, vertical lines and appealing blue color make a wonderful contrast with plants with red or orange foliage like that of Sedum nussbaumerianum. In mid-summer, tiny white blooms emerge, highly attractive to butterflies.

Senecio mandraliscae blue chalk sticks is easy to grow as a groundcover, in rock gardens and on hillsides. It withstands drought and continues to to look lush and attractive. Blue chalksticks belong in your garden!
